What Do You Blog About?
I sometimes wonder what I’m doing with my blog. I want to write about what’s on my mind but I also am very much mindful of my readers, the few of them. When I am online I am going through a lot of feeds and there’s a lot of information there, but really, who wants to get my opinions on a few stories? I’m no author, not anybody famous. So, what now?
I think what I blog about more is usability. Sure, it can be taken as being “complaining” which is fine, but it really does annoy me when things don’t work the way they should. It’s even worse when these are things you want to like so much. I’m looking at you, Google Reader.
Now that WordPress has temporarily done away with feed stats, I wonder how many, if any of you read and look out for what is on this blog. It’s by no means a “must read” since I don’t break any news, and when I do a feature, it’s few and far between. I just want to know if anyone reads this, what they like or liked about it so I can focus on that more because I lack just that: focus.
I’m also constantly looking for new blogs for news on technology, gaming, music, movies, television and all facets of entertainment. Aside from the mainstream “go-to” blogs, I like the niche blogs, the personals, so here’s a free plug, and here’s to some actual content on here.
Online Storage For The Masses
In recent years, online storage has become a highly improved and highly competitive market. This is mostly because of the dropping prices of online storage to the point that there’s a lot more room for free accounts to get users signing up and uploading. Here are some options for the free-file hoster in you.
Hosting Images
This is a space that can be sub-divided. I also don’t think there is a real standout and that people will have their own preference. Are you interested in a long-term relationship or something more long lasting? I can help you with both.
Suppose you have a stupid, random, pointless blog that exists for no good reason and just want to upload some images to go along with your posts, what can you use?
Meaningful Relations
Perhaps the “Wham, Bam, thank you ma’am” that is Imageshack and AYCU are not enough. Maybe what you want is a way to keep your photographs online, in a community environment, or at least be able to keep track of what you upload. If you’re a photographer, then what you want is flickr. For something more lax, photobucket is yours.
Host Anything
Maybe you have a podcast, like sharing movies, or want to put some random file for people to upload. We have a few options as well. While you may have encountered people putting up files through megashare or rapidshare, my choices are mediafire and divshare.
Also, check out divshare if you have a self-hosted WordPress blog, you can install their plugin and automatically upload files through your WP dashboard as opposed to using your own storage.
Documents/Online Desktop
If you want to essentially have an online desktop, then what you want is box.net It gives you a clean interface, with the ability to create folder like your own desktop.
Design A Website
Can you design a website? Ever thought about it? Dan Huard’s Scopetech is looking for a redesign. They’re looking to launch on the WordPress platform and are looking for accompanying forums. If you’ve ever been interested in Web design, why not try a submission out?
